FDA YEARBOOK 2026 Launch

FDA

The Film Distributors’ Association (FDA) represents the interests of film distributors in the UK and Ireland. Its membership ranges from Hollywood studios to independent operators and is responsible for 99% of all films released theatrically in the territory.

Today, the FDA published its 2026 YEARBOOK with a breakfast reception at The Londoner Hotel, Leicester Square. Hosted by FDA Chief Executive Andy Leyshon, the event was attended by FDA member companies and key industry partners. Now entering its 24th year of publication, the annual FDA YEARBOOK is the definitive resource on the UK & Irish theatrical market.

This latest version of the Yearbook focuses on the UK & Irish theatrical market in 2025, with box office data and analysis on cinemagoing by day, week, month and nation; market research on audience behaviours and attitudes; performance of key genre categories; theatrical market trends across the last decade; as well as a wider look at the leading box office territories across the world.

Alongside statistics and analysis for the home and global box office markets, the Yearbook also features bespoke industry reports on accessibility, advocacy, charity, diversity, education and piracy; a look at the UK home and mobile entertainment market through streaming, television, video, games, books and music; and a useful almanac section containing a variety of sector information.

Launching the book today, Andy Leyshon, FDA Chief Executive, said:

The Yearbook primarily looks back at 2025 and another decent step in cinema’s recovery. 2026 has already made great strides forward and we have the most exciting slate that we’ve seen in a long while sure to land massive footfall. Cinema is back in the ascendency and we need to make sure that this momentum continues through a consistently diverse slate, investment in originality and engagement with all audiences. We must work holistically as a united sector to keep improving and grow the market, whilst making cinema a compelling destination. All of you in this room have the capacity to help positively shape our industry, to make our business even greater and build for a more sustainable long-term future.’

Cinema box office in the UK & Ireland crossed the £1bn mark (£1.071bn) for the third consecutive post-pandemic year in 2025, (+1.0% vs. 2024), whilst admissions reached 134m (-2.9% vs. 2024). 1,092 titles were released into cinemas, with hit game adaptation A Minecraft Movie, musical Wicked: For Good and British comedy sequel Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy landing as the top three performing titles of the year.
